Safety
Last updated: 24 July 2026
MunchAlong helps adults meet other people in public venues. Meeting anyone you do not know involves risk.
MunchAlong provides safety and accountability tools, but no platform removes every risk. Use your judgement and make decisions that protect you.
Public venues only
Meet only at the public food or drink venue shown in the Munch.
Do not move the Munch to:
- A private home.
- A hotel room.
- A vehicle.
- An isolated outdoor location.
- Any other location not shown in the Munch.
If someone pressures you to move to a private or isolated location, decline and leave.
Check the details
Before leaving:
- Confirm the venue.
- Confirm the date and start time.
- Review the payment arrangement.
- Make your own travel plan.
- Keep enough battery and data access to use your phone.
Tell someone
Consider telling a friend or family member:
- Where you are going.
- Who you are meeting.
- When you expect to return.
Trust your instincts
You do not need permission to leave.
If you feel uncomfortable, pressured, threatened or unsafe, end the conversation and leave.
Do not remain because you are worried about appearing impolite.
Protect personal information
Do not feel pressured to share:
- Your home address.
- Financial information.
- Identification documents.
- Passwords.
- Private account details.
- Travel documents.
- Sensitive workplace information.
- Information that might put you at risk.
Payments
Confirm the payment arrangement before ordering.
Do not hand over your card, banking credentials or payment accounts to another participant.
Pay the venue directly wherever possible.
Alcohol and impairment
Remain able to make decisions and leave safely.
Do not pressure another person to consume alcohol or any substance.
Harassment and boundaries
Respect personal, cultural and physical boundaries.
Harassment, threats, discriminatory conduct, unwanted sexual behaviour and intimidation are prohibited.
Check-in
Use Check-In when you arrive and meet the location requirements.
Check-In helps the group understand who has arrived. It is not a guarantee of safety or identity.
Find each other
Use Find Each Other only to help checked-in participants locate one another inside the venue.
Do not use it to share unnecessary personal information.
Safety override
Use Safety Override when a safety concern affects a Munch.
Safety Override may:
- Cancel or remove you from the Munch.
- Notify affected participants.
- Create a moderation case.
- Temporarily prevent involved users from seeing one another through Discovery.
MunchAlong might not disclose every protective measure applied to an account.
Reporting
Use the available reporting and safety tools to report serious behaviour.
Provide truthful information. Deliberately false reports may lead to account action.
Immediate danger
MunchAlong is not an emergency service.
In immediate danger:
- Leave the location.
- Move to a safer public place.
- Contact venue staff.
- Contact local emergency services.
- Contact a trusted person.
No background checks or government-ID verification
MunchAlong does not conduct background checks.
MunchAlong does not currently verify users through government-issued identification.
A profile photo, successful-Munch count or account history does not guarantee identity, safety or future behaviour.
Voluntary participation
Creating, joining and attending a Munch is voluntary.
You decide whether a Munch feels appropriate for you.
You participate at your own risk and remain responsible for your personal safety.
